The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, met with the President of the Parliament of the Kingdom of Norway – Storting, Masud Gharahkhani.
The sides reviewed the cooperation between Georgia and the Kingdom of Norway, and they emphasised the importance of strengthening parliamentary ties.
Shalva Papuashvili spoke about Masud Gharahkhani’s Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations and noted that given the new geopolitical reality, it is especially important for NATO to send the right signal to Georgia at the Madrid Summit and offer a real way to join the Alliance.
“I think that the time has come for the Western and democratic societies to send a sign of solidarity not only to the Ukrainian people but also to the Georgian and Moldovan people and to support their aspiration to return to the European family,” said Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili.
The Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia also reviewed Georgia’s cooperation with the North Atlantic Alliance and stressed the assistance that the Kingdom of Norway is providing to our country in this regard.
Masud Gharahkhani noted that the Kingdom of Norway will continue to support Georgia’s territorial integrity and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Moreover, Shalva Papuashvili also said that Norway is one of Georgia’s close partners and a strong supporter of the development of democratic institutions in our country and NATO integration.
Speaking about the security challenges, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia stressed that it was possible to make a prediction given the Russian aggression against Georgia in 2008 and against Ukraine in 2014.
“We both visited Ukraine and met with our colleagues. I think it is necessary to note that it was not easy to predict such a development, but on the other hand, one could really make this prediction, given the Russian aggression against Georgia in 2008, as well as Russia’s aggression against Ukraine in 2014. I think that the time has come for the Western and democratic societies to send a sign of solidarity not only to the Ukrainian people but also to the Georgian and Moldovan people and to support them in their quest for a return to the European family. Also, to send a clear signal to Russia that it is impossible for any country to hinder the democratic aspirations of the people for a democratic society,” Shalva Papuashvili said.
