Koka Katsitadze, the head of the SIS (Special Investigation Services) of Georgiab has visited the construction site of the new head office of the service. First deputy Giorgi Kvaratskhelia accompanied the head of SIS. During their visit they both got acquainted with the construction works of the new head office of the service.
It’s important to note that the new head office of the Special Investigation Service is being built on a land area of 4,440 Meter square. The new head office building designed to be fully adapted to execute all functions and activities of the service is a testament of the modernization and progress of the SIS.
The new building will be equipped with modern safety equipment and fully adapted for disabled people so that they can also access it easily. Moreover special spaces for the interrogation of minors, rooms for identification and temporary detention, storage of material evidence, servers, archives, storage rooms and parking spaces for operational vehicles will be part of the new building as well.
It is worth noting that the Special Investigation Service was launched on March 1, 2022 and it began operating in a leased building which was handed over from the State Inspectorate Service. However with time the condition and configuration of the building could not meet the minimum requirements necessary for the normal functioning of the investigative body so the government decided to build a new well, updated building.
Responding to the challenges that existed immediately after the service was created, the SIS set a goal of institutional and infrastructural strengthening. This includes adding regional offices for the service a significant expansion that will enhance its effectiveness and reach.
Under the reform the Special Investigative Service opened new investigative offices in Telavi and Zugdidi. The Adjara regional office was renovated and adapted according to the latest facilities and the Kutaisi office which was temporarily used until now was brought to the balance of the service.
It is also to be added that the Kvemo Kartli regional office in Rustavi will be added to the service in the spring of 2025 and after that the sixth regional office will be opened in Gori. The construction of the new headquarters of the Special Investigation Service is planned to be completed in December 2025. The cost of the project is 17,850,000 GEL.
