Solomon Pavliashvili the Georgian deputy minister of agriculture and environment protection attended the meeting on waste management and development of circular economy held recently.

Moreover, he emphasized that Georgia is actively working on implementation of EU directives and legislation in this direction.

Solomon Pavliashvili stated that “There are a number of challenges in the circular economy that’s why implementing different projects and the involvement of donors in them is very important. We discussed measures for creating a circular economy financing platform, one of the key challenges facing our country. Waste producers need support and encouragement, as the transition from a clean to a green economy will require a lot of effort and financial resources”.

At the same time according to Anelis Vanvimelbeke Head of the European Union Representation Team in Georgia added that the EU (European Union) candidate status gives Georgia more opportunities but it faces greater challenges and demands also.

It is to be added that the meeting was held within the framework of the EU-financed project called “Waste Management and Promotion of Circular Economy Development in Georgia” with the support of Ministry of Environment and Agriculture. The 2-year EU technical assistance project is being implemented from 2022 and it will support the development of the country’s socio-economic and circular economy as well.
