Solomon Pavliashvili opens meeting of Council of REC Caucasus

The Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili opened the meeting of the Council of the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center (REC Caucasus). He also gave welcome speech to attendees on this occasion.

The Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture Solomon Pavliashvili opened the meeting of the Council of the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center (REC Caucasus). He also gave welcome speech to attendees on this occasion.

The Deputy Minister then detailed the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center’s activities and the importance of EU support in this process. He highlightedd, “Environmental stability is an important priority of the state.”

“You will be reminded, ensuring environmental stability is an important priority of the State. The role and importance of the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center is noted in this process. The Center is particularly important in implementing the European Green Agreement Plan and harmonizing legislation with the European Union. It is noteworthy that our cooperation is effective, which will continue in the future, – said Solomon Pavliashvili.

Nikolas Sandrovich, Head of the Department of Development and Cooperation of the EU Delegation, Representatives of the Governments of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Armenia, NGOs and academic circles were present at the meeting.

During the meeting, Sofia Akhobadze, Executive Director of the Caucasus Regional Environmental Center, presented the Center’s report on activities for the period 2023 – 2018.

The conversation touched upon the issues of implementing innovative techniques in agriculture, developing a circular economy, fighting against plastics, sustainable grazing management, and achieving a neutral balance of soil degradation. It also discussed the importance of the results achieved in the direction of sustainable development of the ecosystem and forest as a natural resource. During the meeting, members of the council discussed plans.

Regional Environmental Centre for the Caucasus (REC Caucasus) is a regional organization established in 2000 under the Environment for Europe process. REC Caucasus promotes and facilitates the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, supporting democratic, inclusive, and sustainable societies and regional cooperation.

The REC Caucasus’s mission, mandate, and strategy position the organization as a neutral platform and catalyst for accelerating sustainable solutions in partnership with different local, national, and regional stakeholder groups. The status of REC Caucasus as an independent and non-profit organization has become a model for open, transparent, efficient, and accountable regional cooperation.
