Islamabad, Pakistan: The Wana-Razmak road continued to remain blocked for all traffic for the second consecutive day, as the massive protests against terrorism and the absence of law in South Waziristan in northwest Pakistan continue in full swing.Â
The residents of South Waziristan continued to chant slogans against the surge in terrorism in the tribal district, reported The News International newspaper.
The protest was held in Rustam Bazaar in Wana, which included various party representatives, including the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), National Democratic Movement (NDM), Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), Awami National Party (ANP), and Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP). The civil society organizations, lawyers, traders and the public also joined the protest.
The Assistant Commissioner Wqana, Yasir Salman Kundi, stated that the protesters are demanding a genuine concern, adding that the district administration was trying to fulfil these demands under 10-point agenda. He further assured that every possible effort would be made to maintain peace and harmony in the community.
These protests come amid a rise in cases of militancy across Pakistan after Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan(TTP) called off the ceasefire agreement with the government on November 28, 2022 and has commanded militants to stage attacks across the country.
From the Pakistan’s security personnel’s perspective, December proved to be the deadliest month, stated an Islamabad-based think tank, as it symbolized the rise of TTP as the major threat to the country.
