Speaker of Georgian Parliament appreciates continuous support from Hungary

The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament expressed his deep gratitude towards Hungary for its firm and irreversible support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as for Georgia’s European future.

Georgia: The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili expressed his deep gratitude towards Hungary for its firm and irreversible support for Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity as well as for Georgia’s European future.

Papuashvili personally appreciated the Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orbani for his continuous support to Georgia. The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament visited Hungary on January 26, 2025, to lead high-level meetings. During the meetings, they discussed political cooperation as well as economic and energy ties.

Shalva Papuashvili also shared glimpses of their meeting on his official Facebook page via a post. He noted that his visit to Georgia after the 2024 parliamentary elections is proof of the strong friendship between the two countries.

According to the information shared by the Minister, the sides discussed the prospects for deepening trade and economic ties between the two countries.

According to Viktor Orbani, the relationship between Georgia and Hungary is much more than political and economic cooperation. He said that there are strong brotherly ties between Georgia and Hungary. It was noted that these connections are gaining special importance in the wake of ongoing processes in global politics.

They discussed about growing cooperation between Georgia and Hungary, both at the governmental and parliamentary levels, during the meeting.

The conversation touched on the way Georgia joined the European Union and the steps planned in this regard. The Ministers also highlighted Georgia’s commitment to implement 90% of the Association Agreement by 2028. This far-reaching agreement is a key blueprint for them to continue legal and institutional approximation with the European Union.

Shalva Papuashvili emphasized the importance of the implementation of the Association Agreement, which will prepare Georgia properly for membership in the European Union. Both the Ministers also expressed their willingness to cooperate on international political platforms.

Viktor Orban confirmed Hungary’s support for Georgia’s territorial integrity and European future. According to him, Hungary will continue to defend Georgia’s positions at the EU level.

At the meeting, the parties also discussed possibilities of future cooperation between the countries, including prospects for deepening trade-economic relations.
