Georgia: Ilia Topuria gets order of honour award from president

The UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) Champion Ilia Topuria has been honured with the one of the highest awards of country “Order of Honour”. He received this award for his contribution and merit in the popularisation of Ultimate Fighting art in Georgia and region.

The UFC (Ultimate Fighting Championship) Champion Ilia Topuria has been honured with the one of the highest awards of country “Order of Honour”. He received this award for his contribution and merit in the popularisation of Ultimate Fighting art in Georgia and region.

Ilia Topuria after receiving the award said that it was a great honour for him to receive the title from President. He specifically added that “when i left Georgia I was a common citizen but now stand before you with this title today.This evening, we will support the Georgian football team and help it to win. Saqartvelos Gaumarjos (Long Live Georgia)”.

On the other hand the Georgian President said he is like “live examples for youngsters of Georgia.” Additionally she stated that “I am happy to give this award to Ilia Topuria. His is exemplary in many aspects. In general, our society lacks examples, therefore this is significant”.

President also appreciated the decision of Ilia Topuris for retaining the Georgian citizenship. She added “You wished to retain Georgian citizenship. This is serious message for those who live in foreign countries timely request Georgian citizenship. There are different forms to gain, restore and retain citizenship in our country. What matters is to have a desire to be citizens of Georgia and you demonstrated such a desire. It is important to being a Georgian be faithfulness to your motherland wherever and how successful you might be. Thank you once again”.

It is to be added that the Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili nominated Ilia Topuria for this award. Ilia Topuria a Georgian Featherweight Champion of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) arrived in Tbilisi on March 18 at Georgian president.

Just in the last month 27-year-old athlete knocked out Australia’s Alexander Volkanovski on February 16. That win secured the 15th consecutive victory to Ilia Topuria in the Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). He has had no defeat throughout his career so far as well which is one of the wonderful success.
