Georgia: Swimming competition held at Samtredia Municipality
On the initiative of the Mayor of the Samtredia Municipality David Bakhtadze and with the involvement of the City Hall Culture Service a municipal swimming tournament was held.
This tournament was held for the first time for the students of Samtredia public and private schools. It was held at the renovated sports complex.
Davit Bakhtadze commented “Today we see people of all ages come and benefit from the renovated swimming pool. It’s especially nice to see young people involved in sports like swimming”.
The main goal of establishing the sports infrastructure in the municipality is to motivate the youth to a healthy lifestyle. Today’s tournament was a free swimming event. Representatives of the Imereti Olympic Committee and its leader, Revaz Robakidze, the head of the cultural department, Natalia Manjgaladze, and the deputy mayor, Gia Meishvili, attended.
Revaz Robakidze underlined, “I want to celebrate Samtredia’s success with pride. Today we saw great interest among the youth in the renovated swimming pool. This is a welcome step and thank you personally to the Mayor and local and central authorities for their support”.
Today’s Freestyle swimming competition was held for girls and boys in two age categories. Participants swam a 25-meter distance according to their age groups: 10 to 14 and 15 to 18. The winners of today’s tournament have been announced.
