Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis: The Government of St. Kitts and Nevis extended its best wishes and farewell to the outgoing US Ambassador to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean and the Organization of the Eastern Caribbean States Roger Nyhus on January 17, 2025, Friday, during a cocktail reception at Government House.
The St.Kitts and Nevis Information Service shared glimpses of the event on its official Facebook page on January 20, 2025. Along with the photographs, a short note about the event was also shared.
It should be noted that a cocktail reception was hosted in honor of the ambassador at the Government House in Basseterre. The event was attended by various ministers of the nation.
The participants of the reception party:
- Governor General Dame Marcella Liburd,
- Prime Minister Terrance Drew,
- PM’s wife Diani Jimesha Prince-Drew,
- Minister of Foreign Affairs Rt. Hon. Dr. Denzil Douglas,
- senior government officials and staff from the US Embassy in Bridgetown.
PM Drew and US Ambassador Roger Nyhus were among the dignitaries who gave a speech at the event. Nyhus also cut a cake, and they all raised a toast.
The US ambassador highlighted three main objectives in his speech:
- combating climate change,
- enhancing regional security,
- fostering universal economic development.
Prime Minister Terrance Drew in his speech talked about the nation’s ties with the US. The two countries have maintained friendly relations. The bilateral relations between the countries were already really good but it boosted due to Ambassador Nyhus, so he appreciated his work and also thanked the ambassador.
PM Drew also mentioned the diplomatic relations, that the US developed with St. Kitts and Nevis soon after its independence in 1983.
According to the information shared by the SKNIS, it should be noted that Ambassador Nyhus was appointed as Ambassador by President Joe Biden in September 2022 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate in November 2023.
