Tbilisi: The state security services of Georgia hosted a dedicated session on counter terrorism strategy. The eighth session of the Interagency Standing Commission for the Development and Monitoring of the National Counter-Terrorism Strategy and the Relevant Action Plan was held successfully.

The session was held under the leadership of the State Security Service was held. In this session many heads of the different agencies participated.

The meeting was opened by the Chairman of the Commission, Grigol Liluashvili. The Head of the State Security Service spoke about the counter-terrorism situation in the world, the region and the country and the special importance of constant coordination and involvement of the member agencies of the Commission in this direction.

At the same time the Chairman of the Commission drew attention to the importance of the Georgian National Counter-Terrorism Strategy and its Action Plan for the country.

Moreover, the efforts made by Georgia in the fight against international terrorism and successful international cooperation were deeply discusses by all participants on this occasion as well.

Grigol Liluashvili emphasized the positive assessments of Georgia’s counterterrorism capabilities which reflected in the latest report by partners, including the US State Department.

He also noted the annual report (“Global Terrorism Index”) published by the Institute for Economics and Peace in 2024, in which Georgia maintains the position of a safe country in the context of terrorist challenges when assessed by the criterion of the impact of terrorism.

The participants of the commission session had the opportunity to familiarize themselves with the counterterrorism environment in the country and information on the measures taken and planned by the service.

They get information on many other relevant issues including significant counterterrorism operations conducted during 2024.

The interdepartmental standing commission was established by a resolution of the Government of Georgia and its goal is to determine Georgia’s unified policy in the field of combating terrorism.

This will work by minimizing and preventing the threats facing the country, as well as promote the coordinated activities of state structures.
