Large-scale rehabilitation of Shota Rustaveli Avenue is in the active phase. Works, which are carried out by the City Infrastructure Development Service of Tbilisi City Hall, on the road section from Tamar Chovelidze Street intersection to Freedom Square, are being carried out in a 24-hour mode.
At this point, all types of underground communication on the Avenue are changing – work is underway on the water, sewer and gas networks. At the same time, the drainage system is being assembled.
Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, together with Deputy Mayor Andria Basilaia, got acquainted with the ongoing works.
“Upgrading of underground communications is underway, which has been in critical condition and has created a major problem for residential buildings and road infrastructure on the Avenue.” First of all, we want the road section from Chovelidze Street to the so-called Elbakidze Asphalt to be arranged by September, to be turned into lower layers of asphalt, to enable vehicle travel. The works will be active for four months and will be finished at the end of November. Rustaveli Avenue will be fully renovated and beautified”, – said Kakha Kaladze.
Currently, underground cable channels are being constructed on the sidewalks, where overhead wires will be placed. The existing railings, tiles, and various infrastructure details are being dismantled in the pedestrian part. Underground passages are also being cleared of soil in order to carry out waterproofing works later.
After the complete rehabilitation of underground communication networks, the work will continue with the renovation of the road infrastructure. In particular, sidewalks, which will be paved with natural tiles, will be renewed, and asphalt pavement will be laid on the sidewalk. Safety islands and zebra crossings will be set up. Traffic lights and relevant road signs will also be installed.
In addition, underground waste bins will be installed on the avenue, an outdoor lighting network will be installed, and at the completion of the rehabilitation stage, greening works will be carried out.
On the site of the capital, the Mayor was accompanied by Giorgi Abutidze, Head of the Tbilisi City Hall Infrastructure Development Department, Nino Bagashvili, Head of the Transport and Urban Development Agency, Giorgi Papava, Head of Tbilservice Group LLC, and Davit Kirkitadze, Governor of Mtatsminda District.
