Tbilisi Hosts Concert Marking 1700 Years of Christianity

With the support of the Ministry of Culture, a concert dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as the state religion of Tbilisi was held in the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theater. The program included Giuseppe Verdi's Requiem.

With the support of the Ministry of Culture, a concert dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as the state religion of Tbilisi was held in the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet State Theater. The program included Giuseppe Verdi’s Requiem.
The Ministry of Culture of Georgia shared the glimpses of the event on its official Facebook Page on its official Facebook page on July 22, 2026, Wednesday. The Georgian Culture Ministry also shared a small note about the meeting along with its glimpses.
Soloists Iano Alibegashvili, Ketevan Kemoklidze, Otar Jorjikia and Ramaz Chikviladze, Tbilisi State Opera and Ballet Theater Choir and Orchestra, conducted by Zviad Bolkvadze, participated in the concert.
The event was attended by the Minister of Culture of Georgia, Tinatin Rukhadze, along with deputies.
“This evening was full of emotions. Congratulations to all participants, Opera and Ballet Theater. The project dedicated to the 1700th anniversary of Christianity’s declaration as a state religion in Georgia was presented honorably, Tinatin Rukhadze said.
Representatives of the Georgian Patriarchate, Legislative Authority and Diplomatic Corps attended the event held at the State Theater of Tbilisi Opera and Ballet.
In connection with the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as a state religion in Georgia, with the support of the state, within the festival “Georgia Christian State -1700”, various cultural events are being held until the end of this year. Georgian and foreign musicians-performers, soloists, ensembles, groups, and orchestras participate in them.
Notably, the art heads of the project are Svimon Jangulashvili and Zviad Bolkvadze. The concert brought together renowned Georgian musicians, soloists, the choir, and the orchestra for a special musical performance.
The event was organised as part of the celebrations marking the 1700th anniversary of Christianity being declared the state religion of Georgia.
