Tbilisi, Georgia: The Mayor of Tbilisi Kakha Kaladze, who was on a working visit to Milan, met his Milan colleague Giuseppe Sala on June 9, 2025, Monday. The sides talked about the relations of the two countries and the prospects of deepening cooperation between Tbilisi and Milan in different directions.
The talk was about opening the General Consulate of Georgia in Milan, which mayors say will contribute to building even closer relations between countries and cities.
Minister Kakha Kaladze expressed his warm gratitude towards Giuseppe Sala for his warm hospitality and invitation to the capital of Georgia. He stated, “Thank you for your friendly and warm hospitality. Georgia and Italy have a great history of cooperation, relations between our people are tight.”
He also added, “I hope that the cooperation between Tbilisi and Milan will deepen in all directions, for which I personally, as the mayor of Tbilisi, will not envy the efforts. I spent ten years in Milan and I want Tbilisi to share the great experience that Milan has as a leading city in Europe. We have a lot of news in Tbilisi.”
According to the Mayor of Tbilisi, they have implemented several projects in different directions and we have quite ambitious plans ahead. He will take this opportunity and invite people to the beautiful capital, which he thinks will impress everyone very much.
The mayor of Milan thanked Kakha Kaladze for his visit and expressed his full readiness to develop cooperation between cities. He also spoke about the issues related to climate change, which have become a major challenge for many cities around the world.
Kakha Kaladze also mentioned his readiness to promote the deepening of cooperation between Milan and Tbilisi in different directions. “Also, I would like to suggest getting involved in NC40 cities – a worldwide network of cities that are fighting climate change. This is, both political and technical network, precisely for engaging mayors,” he added.
However, the opening of the General Consulate of Georgia in Milan is a very good opportunity for the development of bilateral relations. Many citizens of Georgia live in Milan.
