Tbilisi Metro to Receive 111 New Wagons in 34 Years

The Mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, visited the Metro Train Manufacturing Company (CRRC) in China, where a ceremony to present a new train manufactured specifically for the Tbilisi Metro was held.   

According to the Mayor, upgrading the Tbilisi Metro with 111 new trains is really a historical event in the city’s life, because the last time new trains were added to the Tbilisi Metro was 34 years ago.   

As noted at the event, new train wagons were specially created for the capital of Georgia, which will become an integral part of the Tbilisi Metro and a symbol of Georgia-China friendship.   He expressed hope that the slogan of the event, “Successful Development of Tbilisi Metro,” is a realistic perspective. During his speech, the mayor of Tbilisi, Kakha Kaladze, spoke about the importance of the metro for the capital and noted that today gives the metro new life.   

The Tbilisi Mayor noted, “I am delighted to announce that we are located in the world one of the largest subway companies (CRRC) today because of this very important news for our capital, and I celebrate this joyful fact with you.” Renewal of Tbilisi Metro with 111 new wagons, this is really a historical event in our city’s life, because the last time new wagons were added to Tbilisi Metro 34 years ago.   

Tbilisi Metro has a long history. At the time, its creation was the most important step in the city’s transport development. Today we continue

 this story and give new life to the metro, which should meet the needs of modern Tbilisi.   Metro Tbilisi is not the only way to move. It’s part of the city’s daily life. This is a mode of transport by which hundreds of thousands of people will move every day

The mayor noted that the first fully modern four-car trainset scheduled to arrive in Tbilisi by the end of the year has already been completed. Kakha Kaladze also stated that a total of 25 trains will be added to the Tbilisi metro system: 14 four-car trains and 11 five-car trains.  

 “I would like to thank everyone involved in this complex and significant undertaking. I also thank our Chinese hosts for the wonderful, warm welcome and for sharing in our joy. Standing behind me is a new car destined for the Tbilisi metro—a vehicle that represents a new step toward Tbilisi’s future,” Kakha Kaladze said.   

In his turn, CRRC Group Vice President Li Ding Nani noted that the project would have great importance in deepening economic and trade relations between China and Georgia, establishing historical friendship and connecting Asia and Europe. “We hope in the future to expand the spheres of cooperation with all the stakeholders of Georgia,” said the CRRC group vice president during his speech.  

The event was attended by Georgian Ambassador to China Paata Kalandadze, Director of “Tbilisi Transport Company” Giorgi Sharkov, one of the founders of GT Group Gia Gvelesiani, CRRC Group Vice President Lee Ding Nan, CRRC Puchhen Board Chairman Yang Tsi, and CRRC Puchhen General Director Su Khai Ta.
