Tbilisi Silk Road Forum highlights Middle Corridor as key regional trade and infrastructure hub

Tbilisi, Georgia: A panel discussion, “Middle Corridor: From Reliability to Effectiveness,” was held within the framework of the “Tbilisi Silk Road Forum“. The reporters talked about the importance of the mid-corridor route, including in various sectoral directions.

As the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Mariam Kvrivishvili noted, the middle corridor route is a platform for direct dialogue between countries. Also, a good example of how several important issues can be transformed not only in one country, but across a region or several countries.

During the panel, Mariam Kvrivishvili also spoke about major infrastructural projects in Georgia, including emphasis on railway modernization, Anaklia Deepwater Port, and Tbilisi’s new airport projects.

The panel discussion was also attended by Nurlan Sauranbayev, Minister of Digital Development and Transport of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Rashad Nabiyev, Vice President of the Asian Development Bank (South, Central, and Western Asia), Yangming Yang, and Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey, Osman Boiraz.

The Vice President of the Asian Development Bank spoke about the role of middle corridor trade and transport, and financing of infrastructure projects in the countries involved. The Asian Development Bank plans to invest $ 3 billion by 2028 to boost infrastructure in the middle-corridor countries, according to its information.

The development of the middle corridor route was also highlighted by Azerbaijan’s Digital Development and Transport Minister Rashad Nabiyev, who emphasized the role of the corridor and the importance of cargo transport between Europe and Asia.

Osman Boiraz, Deputy Minister of Transport and Infrastructure of the Republic of Turkey, emphasized the safety and reliability of the middle corridor. According to his statement, the middle of the corridor is a reliable route because it goes through a region where there are no geopolitical risks. That’s why it may really be the most reliable corridor.

The Minister of Transport of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Nurlan Sauranbaev, emphasized the development of the middle corridor and the importance of transit during the panel. According to him, transit is the future of many countries, and Kazakhstan is very interested in the development of the mid-corridor.
