Georgia: The Minister of State of Georgia, Tea Akhvlediani attended the civil funeral of those who were lost without a way during the 1990s armed operation on March 14, 2025, Friday.

It should be noted that, along with Tea Akhvlediani, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze, President Mikheil Kavelashvili, Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, the Cabinet of Ministers, and Members of Parliament also attended the funeral.

This time, through the collaborative efforts of the Minister of State and the International Committee of the Red Cross, and within a coordination mechanism involving both Georgian and Abkhazian participants, it was possible to identify these individuals and return them to their families; five are military personnel and one is a civilian.

The Georgian Minister of State gave a speech at the event. She stated, “Today is an especially difficult day for the families of 6 additional identified persons, including 5 military servicemen, who are indirectly involved in the tragic events caused by the atrocities of war that thousands of families across our country have experienced, related to the loss of a loved one, displacement or the grievous fate of disappearance.”

“I would like to honor once again the memory of all the fathers who died for the unity of Georgia and express my condolences to the families, which today are experiencing the greatest pain caused by the confirmation of the death of a family member,” said the Minister of State Tea Akhvlediani.

Civil funeral of those who died during armed operations was held in Trinity Cathedral for two days. Two fighters were buried at the Dighomi brothers’ cemetery, and the rest, by the decision of their families, at different locations, including at the family cemeteries with military honors.

Within the framework of the armed operations of the 1990s and the mechanisms of searching for the missing persons in the August 2008 war, the first identification and relocation was carried out in 2013. So far, 623 human nests have been found within the framework of the mechanisms, of which 323 have been identified. Up to 2000 people are still considered lost without a way.
