The Minister of State, Tea Akhvlediani, met with students representing ethnic minorities at Samtskhe-Javakheti University to discuss the Day of the Georgian Language.

The Minister of State congratulated young people on the Day of Georgian Language, stressed its historical importance, and drew attention to the importance of knowing the state language in the culturally and linguistically diverse society of Georgia, as the most important prerequisite for education, professional development, and civic integration of students of different ethnicities.

Tea Akhvlediani introduced the core areas of Reconciliation and Involvement, as well as the Civil Equity and Integration Policy, to the Institution and emphasized the importance of increasing the active involvement and role of young people in achieving national priorities.

During the event, Natela Beridze, head of Samtskhe-Javakheti University’s “1+4 Georgian Language Training Program,” celebrated many years of success in teaching Georgian language to students representing ethnic minorities. Also, symbolic gifts were given to students who completed the Georgian language training course, showed the best results, and stood out with high academic performance.

The 1+4 program gives the opportunity to young people representing ethnic minorities to deepen their knowledge of the Georgian language for a year and then continue their studies in higher educational institutions.

The Minister noted, “This year, we celebrated the Georgian Language Day with students representing ethnic minorities of Samtskhe-Javakheti University, who are learning Georgian with the support of the state and taking important steps for further development and a successful future.”

“I am glad to have had the opportunity to discuss with such determined and motivated young people in a warm environment the importance of raising the knowledge of the Georgian language, its wider establishment and development, and strengthening the state status, which is undoubtedly one of the key determinants for further strengthening and consolidation of our multiethnic society,” she added.

“I would like to express my gratitude to all the teachers and appreciate their efforts and dedication, who make a special contribution to teaching and popularizing the state language for our non-Georgian-speaking population,” said the Minister of State, Tea Akhvlediani.

The Minister of State Tea Akhvlediani held a working meeting with the administration of the State Trustee of Samtshe-Javakheti side and the renewed composition of mayors of sparsely populated municipalities with ethnic minorities, in which the tangible results achieved in the process of implementation of the state policy of civil equality and integration were discussed.
