Georgia: The Minister of State, Tea Akhvlediani, met with the population of villages of Akhalkalaki Municipality in Samtskhe-Javakheti and summarized the results of the multi-component campaign.
The information campaign aimed to inform and raise awareness among ethnic minorities about government programs, services, and various current issues.
At the meeting, the Minister noted that the campaign, held twice a year in an interactive format in narrowly populated municipalities with ethnic minorities in a language understandable to the local population, has already been established as one of the most effective mechanisms for building inclusive and equal societies. This constitutes an essential basis for each citizen’s full participation.
Besik Amiranashvili, the State Trustee of the Samtskhe-Javakheti side, and the Mayor of Akhalkalaki Municipality, Melkon Makariani, participated in the meeting.
A large-scale multi-component information campaign about government programs and services throughout Samtskhe-Javakheti was held under the leadership and coordination of the Minister of State’s Office, in close cooperation with local governments of the region and with direct participation of representatives of state agencies.
During the working visit, the Minister of State and representatives of the local government and self-government also participated in the opening event of the newly rehabilitated “House of the Future.” This institution, founded on the initiative of Akhalkalaki City Hall, will allow students from 6 to 18 years old to enroll in Georgian and foreign languages, chess, handicraft, and art courses.
She mentioned, “In regions densely populated by ethnic minorities, a large-scale information campaign on the initiative and organization of the Minister of State’s Office continues, within which we confirmed the results of meetings held with representatives of various field ministries in Samtskhe-Javakheti region for a month, which included Akhalkalaki, Akhaltsikhe, Aspindza, Ninotsminda Municipalities included about 3000 inhabitants. That’s why today we had a one-of-a-kind final meeting with representatives of over 60 villages, hearing their assessments and discussing our future vision for direct communication with local people to further promote their active, effective, and sustained involvement in government programs and services in relevant areas of rural areas.
