Tea Tsulukiani visits construction site of canoe base in Maltakva

Tbilisi: The Georgian Minister of Culture and Sports Tea Tsulukiani inspected the construction works of fencing and a canoe base in Poti, Maltakva.She directed the official for earlier completion of work.

It is to be noted that the construction of the base was started in 2023 at the initiative of the Ministry and its work is actively ongoing. The project is scheduled to be completed by September 2024.

Notably, the base will include the training compound, sportsmen’s living, and administrative spaces needed for sports infrastructure. The project budget is 6,628,698 GEL.

During his visit Tea Tsulukiani First Deputy Minister of Culture accompanied by Mayor of Poti Municipality Beka Vajaradze, Director of Sportshenservice Geronti Tsindeliani, Vice Presidents of the National Federation of Canoe and Rowing of Georgia – Nikoloz Khatiashvili, Emzar Malania, Chairman of the Academic Rowing Committee Mikheil Bujiashvili, and General Urma secretary Paata Gunia .

It is to be specifically mentioned that the city of Poti has a special place in the history of Georgia. In the XX century low diving was very popular here. The best athletes of that time were coming to the city to train. Right from the bottom was the legendary shotgun Viktor Kratasiuki, who won the Olympic championship at the 1972 Munich Olympics.

In 2021 Tea Tsulukiani also visited the former base of Maltakvi basin and canoe in Poti and got acquainted with the situation there after which he planned to restore the base.

It is also to be noted that the promising youngsters who need a boost for their skill will be able to train and compete in an international level infrastructure after the construction of the sports base is completed. As a result Georgia’s great sporting traditions will be properly restored. It should be noted that the base of Maltakvi will also contribute to the development and popularization of other types of sports.

Georgian Ministry of Culture and Sports continues to arrange modern international standards sports infrastructure for the development of Georgian sports and the promotion of athletes.
