The Georgian Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth continues to work towards professional support for teachers and the provision of an appropriate educational environment.
At this stage, the registration for the cognitive exams of teachers is underway, in which the current teachers are actively involved. This process is an important prerequisite for quality education.
In order to take into account the best interests of teachers and to support them, the Georgian Education Ministry has made a decision. From the 2026-2027 academic year, teachers who have confirmed competence in Georgian language and literature and/or mathematics of grades VII-XII will have the right to teach these subjects in grades V-VI and will be given the appropriate remuneration for their confirmed competence.
Because there is a test to confirm the cognitive competence of Georgian language and literature and mathematics in I-VI classes in the system, the hours of the subjects mentioned in the V-VI classes will initially be distributed to the teachers who have the right to teach in the I-VI classes.
According to the current legislation in Georgia, the subjects Our Georgia (V-VI classes) and I and Society (III-IV classes) belong to the Social Sciences scientific group, and therefore, from the 2026-2027 academic year, with the appropriate payment of confirmed competence, teachers who have obtained history, geography or Samoka will have the opportunity to teach these subjects The right to teach lako education.
Also, from the 2026-2027 academic year, with the appropriate payment of confirmed competence, I and the public will be allowed to teach subjects to those teachers who have obtained the right to teach combined Georgian language and literature, mathematics, and science (I-IV classes).
It is to be informed that the registration for teachers’ cognitive exams is ongoing. Therefore, those who have registered for the exams, but based on the above information, do not want to take the exam, may apply to the National Center for Evaluation and Examinations before May 11, 18:00 o’clock, to cancel the registration for a particular subject and to refund the amount paid.
