Teachers get training on biodiversity and environmental issues

 The Center for Environmental Information and Education under the framework of the program "Environmental and Agrarian Education at School" trained about 2000 on various topics.

Tbilisi: The Center for Environmental Information and Education under the framework of the program “Environmental and Agrarian Education at School” trained about 2000. These teachers are supposed to provide the students with basic knowledge on important issues such as biodiversity, water resources and air protection, waste management, land management and fighting against desertification, climate change and natural hazards reduction, sustainable agriculture, food safety and quality.

At the same time within the framework of the updated program Pre-school Environmental Education” about 600 kindergarten practitioners have been trained to raise awareness about environmental education of early children.

It is to be specifically mentioned that in order to promote environmental and agricultural professions and educational programs for young people many initiatives have been implemented. These included- “Ecolider School”, “Agro School”, “Forest School”, “Green Camp – Climate Ambassadors” and young volunteers.

Recently About 200 students of IX-XII classes participated in interesting environmental and agrarian science programs to get knowledge on the environmental related issues.

Similarly professional training program “Forest Inventory and Taxation” was successfully completed by 12 young people. Graduates of the program were employed in the National Forest Agency and participated in the national forest inventory process.

Whereas 21 environmental managers have been trained in the 2023 course of the “Environmental Manager” who will implement the waste management code and its obligations, inspection procedures and law enforcement.

Among others the 64 students of Environmental and Agrarian were awarded the “Green Scholarship” and “Agro Scholarship”. Within the framework of the program, students will get practical experience in their respective institutions.

More than 1000 beekeepers have been trained as part of the farmers’ training program as well.On this occasion, the Otar Shamugia minister of environment protection and agriculture awarded the trainee with a certificate of appreciation and a certificate of participation as well.

The minister said that the ministry is very much concerned about the protection of the biodiversity of Georgia. He said that to meet the end of biodiversity protection, many programs and policies have been launched by the ministry.

He also touched upon other issues like waste management and called for coordination and cooperation among different agencies to encourage the recycling process and the proper management of waste material across the country.

Similarly minster Otar Shamugia also said a more strict provision would be introduced for the prevention of air, water, soil pollution, etc.He said that the protection of the nation’s environment is very important for the survival of the next generations.
