Irakli Kobakhidze, the Prime Minister of Georgia highlighted territorial integrity and poverty reduction as the main tasks of his government. The statement came ahead of the October 26 election, in which his party faced tough competition from opposition parties.
According to the Prime Minister, his Georgian Dream-led government is committed to restoring the country’s territorial integrity. He also says that if his party comes to power after the October 26 election, more such efforts will be implemented to eradicate poverty.
The PM was speaking at a government event and noted that we have achieved many milestones in our current tenure and will boost these efforts in the future if Georgians elected us to power once again.
However, the Prime Minister expressed hopes that due to the people-oriented approach, the party (Georgian Dream) is bound to come into power once again.
While speaking specifically, he underlined that “The October 26 election will not be ordinary elections; rather, this will decide the country’s future. People must choose their destiny. They must choose between peace and war and poverty and prosperity. I am sure people will bestow their confidence in our policies.”
He also urged the people to vote in favour of the Georgian Dream so that the country’s development work could continue without any disturbances. The PM firmly claimed that the poverty rate would be reduced by other four percent before 2028. He said reconciliation with Abkhazians and Ossetians is a condition for the country’s reunification.
According to him, many factors will be central to restoring territorial integrity. The global and regional factions will undoubtedly have a decisive role in this process. Our party very much supports reunification, but this cannot be accomplished without reconciliation.
We need to do many things to ensure peaceful relations with our Abkhazian and Ossetian sisters and brothers. This will benefit Georgia in multiple ways and contribute to progress.
