Thematic Research Group visits Marneuli Municipality to study access to quality education for ethnic minorities

Georgia: The Thematic Research Group set up by the Education and Science Committee to study access to quality education for ethnic minorities has visited Marneuli Municipality.

During the visit, meetings were held with school principals, teachers and heads of educational resource centres in the Kvemo Kartli region, as well as with representatives of vocational education institutions, kindergartens and local self-governments in Marneuli Municipality.

Members of Parliament of Georgia: Tamar Taliashvili, Khatuna Kvitsiani, Zaur Dargal and Savalan Mirzoev took part in the meetings.

During the meeting with the school community, the keynote speaker of the research group, Khatuna Kvitsiani, introduced the participants to the objectives of the thematic research and focused on the key issues that pose challenges for ethnic minorities in terms of access to quality education. According to him, the research meetings held in regions densely populated by ethnic minorities are aimed at involving all stakeholders in the decision-making process.



Tamar Taliashvili, First Deputy Chairperson of the Education and Science Committee, stressed the importance of thematic research as an effective oversight mechanism that the Committee actively uses in its decision-making process. He thanked the participants for their active involvement in the investigation process.

The members of the thematic research group visited the vocational college “Modus” located in Marneuli. The deputies got acquainted with the programs of the college and listened to the needs of the vocational education institutions located in Marneuli.

Within the framework of the visit, the members of the research group visited the N3 kindergarten in Marneuli, where a meeting was held with the representatives of the kindergarten associations and local self-governments located in the Kvemo Kartli region. The meeting focused on the importance of pre-school education in the process of obtaining quality education for ethnic minorities and learning the state language, as well as the challenges in this area.



According to the members of the Parliament, after the completion of the research, in order to improve the access of ethnic minorities to quality education, recommendations will be developed, the implementation of which will be the responsibility of the relevant executive bodies.

Marneuli Municipality Mayor Kenan Omarov and Marneuli Municipality Sakrebulo Chairman Amiran Giorgadze also took part in the meetings together with the members of Parliament.

The field meeting was supported by the National Democratic Institute (NDI).
