Adjara: The employees of the Environmental Supervision,Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture within the framework of the fight against illegal logging discovered 3 illegal saws in Adjara.
The agency has taken many initiatives to stop illegal tree-cutting in the region to protect the environment and maintain sustainable development as well. As per the information in the villages of Shuakhevi Municipality at the villages of Makhalakidze, Chanchkhalo, and Oladauri the citizens had operated saws in the yard and special buildings without any legal documentation.
It is to be specifically mentioned that in the village Oladauri the lawbreaker had placed 13 units of unmarked round wood (peacock) in the territory of the law. As per the government order and direction the material of unregistered saws and illegally obtained wood were auctioned.
Levan Jgharkava the head of the Department of Environmental Supervision stated that “Fighting against illegal logging is a priority of the Department of Environmental Supervision. Unlawful installation of a saw without registration is a criminal offense and is punishable by a fine or imprisonment of up to 1 year. Because all three facts discovered by department employees in Adjara contain evidence of criminal offenses, materials were sent to the investigative authorities for further response ,to protect the environment we will actively continue to carry out legal measures and detect crime”.
Preventing the installation of the illegal saws without due permission from competent authorities is offence as well. The problem of global warming and climate change has posed many problems for nature. To prevent the loss of nature the preservation of forests is very significant.
The Georgian government and its various agencies have been implementing measures to preserve the forests of the country. The drive against the illegal saws is also a step forward in this direction. The official further stated that the drive will be boosted so that the illegal tree-cutting can be stopped.
