Georgia: The Minister of Culture and Sports of Georgia, Tinatin Rukhadze, inspected the rehabilitation of the old film studio on David Aghmashenebeli Avenue and its surrounding buildings.
Work has been actively underway by the Ministry of Culture since 2022. At this stage, the complete rehabilitation of the administrative building is nearing the end. A reminder that there will be office space for the National Cinema Center on the second floor of the building in September.
In 2022, infrastructural works were carried out on the territory of the old film studio; namely, a complete rehabilitation and a dollhouse were arranged in the former building, 300 sq.m. of the former fire department.
A two-story building was fully rehabilitated, and an apartment was built in the field of cinema by a casting company, photography workshop, metojinebi, and traditional blue table showroom; two mosaic panels were moved to save Rustavi motorway, and they were placed in the territory of the old film studio; a new exhibition space was set up, which was handed over to the Academy of Art for management; 2023 Started this year off and Construction of a new building on the site of a former wood quarry, which will be a multifunctional art space with a 100-view cinema and exhibition spaces, will be completed in 2024.
In 2024, the demolition of the late-period accidental part of the former multi-studio building was to save and rehabilitate two historic 1920s cinema pavilions. It started in 2023, and in 2025, the reinforcement works and renovation of the former laboratory building will be completed. It began in 2024, and in August of the same year, the furnishing of storage and props spaces for five theaters was completed.
