During the working visit to the Republic of Greece, the Minister of Culture of Georgia, Tinatin Rukhadze, met with the Minister of Culture of Greece, Lina Mendoni, on April 7, 2026, Tuesday.
The parties discussed cooperation between Georgia and the Greek Republic in the field of culture and the possibilities for its expansion. The importance of joint projects in theater, literature, music, and museums was emphasized.
At the meeting, attention was given to the issue of signing a memorandum of cooperation in the cultural field. Tinatin Rukhadze invited his Greek colleague to Georgia for an official visit to Georgia for the purpose of signing the document.
Attention was focused on the concert of the Tbilisi Symphony Orchestra and Georgian State Band Chapel, which will be held on April 8, at the Greek National Opera in the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center. It was noted that this event is another proof of the close cultural ties between Georgia and Greece.
Also, the issue of holding Georgian and Greek Culture Days was discussed, which will help to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
During the meeting, Tinatin Rukhadze noted that the National Museum of Georgia is interested in cooperating with the European Center for Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Monuments in Thessaloniki and the Museum of Byzantine and Christian Art in Athens. Possible formats of cooperation are: joint scientific research, conservation-restoration work, exhibition work, museum specialist exchange programs, and others.
“We had a very interesting meeting. Our countries have a lot to do with each other. We talked about implementing joint projects in different fields of archeology, museum, and art. Discussed youth projects. We are working on the memorandum, and I think that the next meeting will be held in Georgia. Our strong Christian roots and Christian culture unite us, and this is a solid foundation for further deepening the relationship between our countries,” said Tinatin Rukhadze.
The meeting was attended by Zurab Bakuradze, Head of the Department of International Relations of the Ministry of Culture of Georgia, Ambassador of Emergency and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the Republic of Greece Levan Beridze, Advisor to the Minister of Culture of Greece Ana Panayotarea, and Diplomatic Advisor to Vasilis Xiros.
During the visit, the General Director of the Acropolis Museum, Nikolao Stampolidis, visited Tinatin Rukhadze at the Acropolis Museum.
