Tbilisi: As per the Memorandum of Understanding, Truso and Aragvi, Protected Landscapes are all set to get financial support from the Caucasusian Nature Fund. A memorandum between the concerned parties was signed in the Mtskheta-Mtianeti Regional Administration recently in this regard.
Under the terms and conditions of the memorandum, the Caucassian Foundation will allocate 300,000 euros for developing these landscapes. This assistance will be for the financial year of 2025.
Moreover, under the provision of the memorandum signed between the parties, the foundation will provide pay supplements for employees, life and health insurance, operational costs, the funds for purchasing new equipment and assistance for technical and consulting services.
This grant-providing agreement was signed between the commissioner of the region, David Nozadze, the mayors of the Dusheti and Kazbegi municipalities, Elisabeth Mesud, the director of the caucasian nature foundation of Truso Protected Landscape Management Centre Gela Pitshelauri and head of argali protected landscape administration nato tskharuashvili.
At this memorandum signing ceremony, attendees also included Karlo Amirgulashvili, head of the Department of Biodiversity and Forestry, minister of agriculture and environment, along with the representatives of the foundation and landscape administration.
It is worth mentioning that, FYI, the Caucasus Nature Foundation is a non-profit conservation organisation that was established in 2007. The foundation targets various issues, such as poaching, deforestation, and illegal activities that threaten natural resources.
The foundation also aimed to spread awareness regarding the flora and fauna natural ecosystema along with Promoting ecotourism.
Notably, the foundation has already expanded its target landscape areas. From the year 2023, work has begun to help the newly created Truso and Agragvi. The Truso Protected landscape is situated within the territory of Kazbegi Municipality, and it includes the Truso Valley in the Tergi River Valley. It has a total area consisting of 7007 hectares.
It is pertinent to mention that protected landscapes are newly protected areas in Georgia, and these areas are managed by the local municipalities of Georgia.
