The Georgian Prosecutor’s Office has charged two persons with murder, illegal purchase, possession, and carrying of firearms in aggravated circumstances, especially serious crime, and illegal group crossing of the Georgian state border.
The Prosecution Service of Georgia shared the details of this heinous crime on its official Facebook page on July 21, 2025. The Service also shared the glimpses of the arrests made by them.
According to the details provided by the Georgian Prosecution Service, it should be noted that the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia conducted an in-depth investigation into this case.
According to the investigation conducted by the Ministry of Internal Affairs, it was established that on July 18, citizens of the Republic of Turkey illegally crossed the Georgian state border and entered Georgia from the Republic of Turkey.
On the same day, in a restaurant in Batumi, one of the accused fired multiple shots from a firearm at two citizens of the Republic of Turkey, and then left the scene with the person who was accompanying him. As a result of the shooting, one of the victims died and the other survived.
The investigation also found that the second defendant, who was at the scene at the time of the crime and knew about the particularly serious crime, did not inform the law enforcement officers.
Law enforcers arrested the accused immediately after committing a crime. One person is charged under Article 19-109 of the Criminal Code (attempted murder, two or more), Article 236 third and fourth (unlawful possession, possession, carrying of firearms and military material), Article 344 second part “a” sub-section (illegal group crossing of Georgian state border), as punishment Considering imprisonment up to 20 years.
The second person is charged under Article 376 (non-reporting of a particularly serious crime) and Article 344 (group illegal crossing of the Georgian state border), which considers imprisonment of up to 7 years.
Based on the intervention of the prosecutor’s office, the accused have already been imprisoned as a precautionary measure.
