Ukraine: As the Education Minister of Ukraine noted, Georgia showed great, strong support to Ukraine during the war. In an interview with the media, Serhiy Shkarlet stressed the importance of providing access to education for Ukrainian children and said that supporting students in such a difficult situation is especially important for every Ukrainian.

Serhiy Shkarlet: “This is the most significant, strong support for Ukraine in a war. More than 100 countries have opened Ukrainian classes and allocated educational space for our children, which is very important for all Ukrainians. We must maintain this strategy so that the process of educating Ukrainian children does not stop. Our students need to have access to education that is essential to their future. Many thanks to the Georgian people, all of Georgia, and our friends for this important and robust support. Thank you again! “

By the decision of the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, a Ukrainian-language sector was established in the 41st Grushevsky Public Schools in Tbilisi and the 20th Public Schools in Batumi, where Ukrainian students have the opportunity to receive general education with the same curriculum and textbooks as those in Ukrainian schools.

Students of the Ukrainian language sector study both compulsory and optional subjects within the formal curriculum. In addition to Ukrainian subjects, children will study Georgian language and literature and the subject “Our Georgia”. In addition, activities are planned for them in the field of educational and non-formal education.

The Education and Science Ministry of Georgia provided all students of the Ukrainian-speaking sector with textbooks and notebooks necessary for learning.

According to the agreement signed between the Ministry and the mobile operators, Ukrainian students, like their Georgian counterparts, benefit from preferential terms of the mobile internet package. They also have the option of participating in the Ministry’s competitions if they so wish.

Students who are unable to continue their general education in Ukrainian schools as a result of the war in Ukraine and show a desire to continue their education in Georgia are enrolled in schools in a simplified manner, according to a decision by the Georgian government.

As per the available data, more than 1000 students of different ages have already been enrolled in Tbilisi and the regions. More than 400 children are currently studying in the Ukrainian-speaking sector in Tbilisi and Batumi.
