The Opposition Party of Trinidad and Tobago, United National Congress has aimed at expanding the cannabis industry as a crucial part of the agricultural policy. Sharing their manifesto on Agricultural Cannabis Expansion, UNC reaffirmed their commitment to creating multiple jobs, empowering farmers, and opening new global markets.
Emphasising on their commitment to expanding cannabis industry, the UNC party noted that they are aiming to implement a comprehensive framework, regulating large-scale cultivation, agro-processing, and exports, which are essential for unlocking the full economic potential of the industry.
Significant steps to be taken by UNC to expand cannabis industry
Therefore, the Opposition Party announced to implement stringent measures, aimed at expanding the cannabis industry in Trinidad and Tobago. The steps to be taken by the party includes,
Policy Proposals – The UNC recognized the significance of developing a regulated cannabis industry. They noted that the proper execution of the policies would play a major role in creating an organized sector that benefits farmers, entrepreneurs and investors while adhering to international laws.
Legislative Expansion – The Opposition Party of Trinidad and Tobago also aimed at implementing the Cannabis Control Authority Bill with a vision to establish a commercial cultivation, agro-processing and export licensing framework.
Support for Small Farmers – The UNC Party also aimed at extending support to the small farmers, by providing them incentive and training programs in cultivating commercial cannabis.
Export-Orientation Strategy – The Opposition Party has also mentioned about developing partnerships with regional CARICOM leaders, aimed at harmonizing standards for medical cannabis exports.
The UNC noted that all these essential steps are a part of their commitment towards making Trinidad and Tobago, a key supplier of pharmaceutical-grade cannabis products in developed markets. The Opposition leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar has therefore, encouraged citizens to Vote UNC for innovation, inclusion, and a smarter approach to agriculture.
