“Tbilisi Urban Forest” project, which includes 700 hectares of restored green recreational space, is at its completion stage. The Tbilisi Vice-Mayor Giorgi Tkemaladze and Deputy Mayor Andria Basilaya inspected the large-scale works carried out and planted saplings.
It is worth noting that within the framework of the memorandum between Tbilisi City Hall and Fund “Kartu”, the restoration of Mtatsminda slopes and forest cover near Turtle Lake was carried out. The territory is surrounded by the central districts of the city – Sololaki, Mtatsminda, Vera, and Vake.
As Giorgi Tkemaladze noted, a unique project was implemented, the kindness of which future generations will feel about themselves every day.
According to him, the most important project for Tbilisi has been implemented. This is definitely the lungs of our city. He said that he would like to congratulate our fellow citizens on the completion of this project and thank the Foundation “Kartu”, Bidzina Ivanishvili, and his family for this unique project.
Giorgi Tkemaladze noted, “We will appreciate the results of the work done in the future even more, and our future generations will feel it on themselves every day.” “This is really a great thing and I, as one of the residents of Tbilisi, express my gratitude,: he added.
“On behalf of our city, I would like to thank, as well, every person involved in this tough job. It is noteworthy that 4 new wells have been set up, which, in fact, supply the whole area with an irrigation system,” said Giorgi Tkemaladze.
After the completion of the “Tbilisi Urban Forest” project, 715,370 seedlings planted on 184 hectares will be added to the city. To maintain them, sewers and irrigation systems were installed, especially in hard-to-reach places, and a drip system was installed.
The area has walking paths, rest and recreation points, including pencils, picnic areas, bench chairs, and information boards.
In order to reproduce wild birds, a vollier has been set up, where they are bred and released into the wild. Part of the area is equipped with surveillance cameras. Works are implemented by the Foundation “Development and Environment. ”
