Tbilisi: The opposition MP Aleko Elisashvili, on Tuesday, stated that –”As it seems, the US is so done with the Georgian Dream authorities’ “incomprehensible tone” in response to the recent critical comments of the US Department of the State spokesperson Ned Price.
Elisashvili added that “Ned Price speaks on behalf of the US Department of the state, not as a private individual. The statement was absolutely expected. The Georgian Dream MPs were so insulting towards the American government and the European Union. I kept saying the reaction would come from there.”
All this time, the Georgian Dream wasn’t just playing with fire but had its hands in the fire. Moreover, it failed to understand its harmful effects on the interests of the Georgian state when it spoke in such a dismissive tone that was really arrogant, stated the MP.
He also voiced his concerns about some of the troublesome statements that emanated from Georgia’s political system and Georgian society.
“The government actions have created setbacks to the clear, overwhelming aspirations of the citizens of Georgia for the European Union membership as well as the EU Euro-Atlantic aspiration. These actions – we’re concerned because they have also deepened the differences within Georgian society rather than unifying the country around the major issues in Euro-Atlantic integration. There has been a degree of polarization which is not really in the interest of the country. It’s definitely going to create pitfalls for Georgia’s broader political aspirations”, Price stated.
Price, however, stated that we remain totally committed to working with Georgia and making the reforms needed to meet its Euro-Atlantic goals” and urged Georgia to “express its commitment to EU integration by adopting reforms necessary to move forward on that path”.
