Tbilisi: In a significant setback to Georgia the government of the United States of America has announced the postponement of the Noble Partner Exercise in Georgia. The development in this regard happened yesterday July 5, 2024. As per the announcement the exercise has been stopped indefinitely.
The announcement was made by the Department of Defense of the United States of America as the exercise in Georgia was scheduled for July 25 to August 6 his year. As per the statement of the defense department, the decision in this regard has been taken after the review of U.S.-Georgia bilateral relations following the adoption of the Foreign Agents law.
It is to be added that a month ago on May 30 the government of the United States of America began a full review of all bilateral cooperation with Georgia to impose the sanction for the passing of the controversial foreign agent law.
Moreover as per the experts the decision was made when Georgia accused the USA and another Western country of putting pressure on Georgia to open a second front against Russia to alleviate pressure on Ukraine. It also accused Georgia of participating in two coup attempts against the ruling party. The statement added that due to the strained relationship this is not the appropriate time to proceed with the proposed exercise in the Republic of Georgia.
The statement stressed that even the exercise had been postponed indefinitely. However we wanted the relationship with Georgia stable and strong especially in defense. It specifically stated “We have not made this decision without any logic but this is based on the solid reason. Moreover the USA places great consideration on the stable relationship with its Allies and Partners adding to exercises such as NOBLE PARTNER.
On the other hand the Georgian Ministry of Defense expressed “regret” over the U.S. announcement. It also said that although the Nobal exercise in postponed but all other events will continue, including AGILE partner.
