Tbilisi: Georgia’s wing of the USAID(united stated Development agency) organised a seminar on the process of mediation for the justice delivery system. This was held under the project “rule of law” in which almost fifty employees of the Mtskheta regional court and Tbilisi civil court participated.
The events were led by mediation experts Irakli Kandashvili, Eter Chachanidze, Sofio Chachava, and Elene Orjonikidze. They talked about the activities of the association of mediators, the principles of mediation, and the training of mediators by the association.
The other issues on which the discussion was held included the difference between mediation and court, the process of transferring a case for mediation, and the criteria that judges should consider before sending any case for mediation.
As per the experts the judges should be taken into consideration all the relevant factors before choosing the cases to be handed over for mediation. The meeting also discussed the recent practice of mediation development during which experts noted the growing tendency of automatic handling of labor and family disputes.
The key speakers on the occasion stated that the process of mediation can play a great role in the fast justice delivery system. According to experts this is the best way to reduce the rate of litigation as well as to save the precious time of the litigants. Similarly this will lower the burden on the judicial officials who have to handle a large number of cases and the process gets delayed.
The key speakers of the event also said that the concept of mediation is a need of the hour. They added that more initiatives must be launched to make the process popular. The employees also came to know about various measures that can be implemented to aware the public about this mediation.
This is to be added that many countries across the globe are promoting the alternative dispute resolution and mediation is also one of the main component of these alternative dispute resolution mechanisms.
