Tengiz Nasaridze, the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia said “Compared to last year yield of per hectare and quality indicators have increased significantly.” He was speaking at a meeting of the ministry’s members at the headquarters.
The deputy minister drew attention to the increase in yield per hectare and noted that this year in addition to the quantity the quality of wheat is also high. He added “Relevant services of the Ministry are in constant touch with the field representatives and receive detailed information about harvested and sold crops. This year compared to last year the yield per hectare of wheat is much higher, the quality is better and therefore compared to last year the price is higher.”
He further added “ Today’s wheat harvesting in Kakheti is completed and the process will be moved to other regions soon. We continue to communicate with farmers actively and if there is a demand from them we are ready to engage in the harvesting process with our equipment. It should be noted that this year the process of harvesting wheat is being organized and I think it will end successfully.”
On the other hand the head of the Wheat Growers’ Association Levan Silagava focused on managing the wheat harvesting process and noted that the Wheat Harvest Accommodation Coordinating Headquarters created by the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture provided an organized management of the process and simplified procedures for farmers.
At the same time the Chairman of the Union of Bread Industry Malkhaz Dolidze spoke about maintaining a stable situation in the country in the direction of bread products.
He added “Compared to previous years the situation is better this year. The average yield of wheat is 3.5 tons per hectare which is a good indicator of bumper crop production. It is important that the qualitative indicators also increase along with the quantity and accordingly we will have high-quality Georgian flour. Considering all this I think that in the direction of bread products a stable situation will be maintained in the country.”
Notbaly this meeting held in the Ministry headquarter was attended by wheat producing farmers, representatives of the relevant services and agencies involved in wheat harvesting process as well.
