Archil Badriashvili, the world-renowned mountaineer died during an expedition in Svaneti Georgia. He was a graduate of Ilia State University of Georgia and a researcher.
There were adverse meteorological conditions which have caused the accident and cost the life of Archil Badriashvili. Archil Badriashvili was on an expedition to Shkelda Peak. The Svaneti is known as the world’s rugged terrain.
Archil Badriashvili’s name is synonymous with a number of firsts in mountaineering particularly in the rugged peaks of the Himalayas in Pakistan, Nepal, and India. He was known for conquering the toughest routes in Georgia including winter expeditions to Ushba and Shkhara a testament to his courage and skill.
It is worth mentioning that the mountaineer Archil Badriashvili received the highest award in mountaineering history the Golden Medal in 2022 for climbing the hardest peak (Saraghrar Northwest, height 7303 meters) for the first time together with Bakar Gelashvili and Giorgi Tefnadze. Archil Badriashvili’s and his team’s route was considered the most difficult.
Notably Archil Badriashvili was a very promising young researcher on the expedition along with many others. After completing the Master’s Program in Addiction Studies at Ilia University of the Republic of Georgia enrolled as researcher.
He was also involved in an international research project to implement the Somatic Therapy Method of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation for Better Mental Well-being and Improving the Quality of Mental Health Education in Georgia”.
On the other hand the management of the Ilia State University of the Republic of Georgia has expressed condolences to Archil Badriashvili’s family, friends, and colleagues. The university administration said that we share our deep condolences for Archil Badriashvili’s greatest tragedy with his mother his dearest colleague Professor Nino Makhashvili, etc.
At the same time the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze has expressed his sympathy with the family members of the departed soul. He also assured that the government would provide all possible assistance to the family members of the Mountaineers.
