Georgia: The Global Water Summit (THE GLOBAL WATER SUMMIT 2024) was held in London, the capital of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Georgia’s Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure, Irakli Karseladze, spoke on the panel.
In his speech, the minister discussed the water supply and irrigation projects implemented in Georgia in recent years and their results. He noted that despite many successful projects and the increasing funding of the sector by the state every year, the water supply issues in the country’s regions remain a challenge.
According to the minister, the ever-increasing financial resources allocated by the state for water supplies contribute to the successful implementation of investment projects and facilitate the implementation of the government’s plan.
By 2025, Georgian cities and 2030, the entire country’s population will be provided with an uninterrupted water supply. The state plans to invest more than 4 billion euros in this project, including projects worth more than 1 billion euros already underway in different locations of the country.
Also, concrete steps taken by the state to reduce the harmful effects on the environment in the water supply sector were noted. Modern water supply systems are actively being built. Currently, 6 cleaning dumps have been put into operation, and the construction of 11 is underway.
The minister also spoke about the importance of implementing private-public cooperation (PPP) models in the water sector and the use of new technologies, which will improve the quality of service, increase the efficiency of the use of water resources, and reduce the negative impact on the environment.
Irakli Karseladze said, “The World Water Summit is an important event that presents the major companies in the field and provides a good opportunity to discuss the results of the ongoing development of the water supply and wastewater sector in Georgia and the industry’s worldwide experience. “

The World Water Summit aims to bring together sector leaders to discuss global water use challenges and developments in the sector. Nine hundred delegates from more than 80 countries participated in the summit, represented by the world’s leading water companies, international organizations, water supply authorities, representatives of self-government and regulatory bodies, investors, engineers, water technologists, and more.
As part of the summit, 300 water sector leaders met at symposiums, work meetings, and discussion panels to discuss challenges in the field, the importance of using new technologies to develop the industry, and opportunities to finance them.
