Yuri Nozadze the Deputy Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia visited the scientific research and testing base in Samtskhe-Javakheti. Levan Ujmajuridze the Director of the Scientific Research Centre accompanied him during visit.
The testing base is located in the village of Vaciani under Akhalkalaki Municipality where the Minister and director got themselves familiarized with the ongoing projects implemented by the Research Service of Cereal Crops of the Scientific Research Center and the Service of National Examination of Selective Achievements of Agricultural Crops. They also got the latest information on the challenges the center faces that need immediate attention.
It is worth noting that at this scientific research center for agriculture research work is carried out in full compliance with the technological schemes with mutual cooperation of the local and international (CIMMYT—ICARDA) nurseries.

The main activities of this agro-base are the study, testing identification of highly productive varieties adapted to a specific region, developing the latest pesticides to prevent diseases, and recommendation for inclusion of crops in the national catalogue for further distribution.
On this occasion Yuri Nozadze stated “For the agricultural sector it is extremely important to select and test new promising varieties of grain, potatoes, and other crops, produce their certified seed material and distribute it to farmers, which provides the opportunity to farmers to obtain high, healthy, high-quality products. In this regard the large-scale scientific and practical works carried out in different regions of the country are noteworthy.”
Similarly the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Director of the Scientific Research Center together with Ioseb Basilia, Director of the Adam Beridze Diagnostic Center for Integrated Protection of Soil, Food, and Plants, inspected the experimental demonstration plots, equipment, machine tools and modern infrastructure for the production and storage of grain crops, potato seed and planting material and discussed future activities.
