Zugdidi: UNDP Georgia celebrates World Youth Skills Day

UNDP Georgia celebrated the World Youth Skill Day on July 15. The students of the local schools and members of the youth eco-clubs of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region of the country took part in the celebration and learned about many new topics.

UNDP Georgia celebrated the World Youth Skill Day on July 15. The students of the local schools and members of the youth eco-clubs of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region of the country took part in the celebration and learned about many new topics. The topics covered  included the  environmental protection, biodiversity, sustainable horticulture, and circular economy.

 

On this occasion  they also visited the beautiful and unique botanical garden of Zugdidi  which is one of the best examples of European-type gardens and a valuable part of Georgia’s natural, cultural, and historical heritage.

 

The UNDP Georgia has shared the information on their official Facebook page. The official Facebook page says “ The group has organized many fun and green educational activities  with the support of USAID and Great Britain. The other agencies that cooperated for the event included the management of  Zugdidi Botanical Garden, CENN  and local organizations and many other  Association, namely  “Atinat” and the Association “Gaenat.”

 

 

It is also worth mentioning that Young people affected by the conflict and members of the youth eco-clubs of the Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti region took part in the event. Moreover  World Youth Skills Day is being held for the tenth time this year. This year’s theme is Youth Skills for Peace and Development  emphasizing that the future of humanity and the planet lies in the hands of the young generation.

 

During the botanical garden visit students learned about many new plant varieties and the latest research. A special presentation was held for the students to apprise them of how they can significantly uplift the public’s standard of living.

 

At the same time  the students were apprised of issues including climate change, biodiversity, and rising temperatures. They were motivated to play an active role in protecting the country’s rich biodiversity. The youth can be flag bearers and lead the nation to new heights with their innovative ideas.
