Zviad Bolkvadze becomes artistic director of Batumi State Music Center

Georgia: Zviad Bolkvadze has been appointed artistic director of Batumi State Musical Center. He will start working as an artistic director next year. The Ministry of Culture congratulates him.

Zviad Bolkvadze was introduced to the position by Maia Khajishvili, Minister of Education, Culture and Sports of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.

Zviad Bolkvadze performs in different genres. He is a well-known composer, author-performer, conductor and author of arrangements. Various groups often perform his choir and symphonic music.

Since 2008, he has been a composer, soloist, and conductor of the Georgian State Chamber Choir (Holy Trinity Cathedral Choir); from 1997 to 2000, he was an actor of the Batumi State Chapel Team. Since 2012, is the conductor of the children’s group “Ana-Bana”, and since 2016 – G. Artistic director and conductor of Kurashvili Abkhazia State Chapel.

It is worth noting that in 2022, under the leadership of Simon Jangulashvili and Giorgi Donadze, the State Chamber Choir of Georgia (Holy Trinity Cathedral Choir), with participation of Zviad Bolkvadze, performed up to 20 samples of Georgian hymns and folklore at the Sixty Chapel, including: “Orovela”, “Shen khar vinakhi”, “Chakrulo”, “Lile”, “Odoia”, “Holy God” and others.

Georgian hymns were sung for the first time in the chapel, and the choir performed Georgian hymns in St. Peter’s Cathedral. Along with traditional music, at this historic concert, masterpieces of modern Georgian group music were performed – works of Ioseb Kechakmadze, Gia Kancheli, Ioseb Bardanashvili and Zviad Bolkvadze, and his masterpiece – “Tsutisopelma”, which was conducted by the author himself.

Zviad Bolkvadze created music for a monodrama in 2022 – “The Passion of Medea” (according to Otar Chiladze’s text, author and director – Zaza Sikharulidze). Zviad Bolkvadze participates in several TV projects. He conducts concerts in Georgia and abroad (Switzerland, Israel, France, USA, Belgium, Poland, Italy, Netherlands, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan).

Awarded by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara for his contribution to the field of culture in 2022. In 2023, “The Passion of Medea” was named the best original music of the theatrical season.
