22nd Georgian prosecutors get special training

Tbilisi: Under the framework of the cooperation among UN Women organisation and the Prosecutor Office of Georgia, a special training session was held. This session was to enhance the mechanism against the incidents of Domestic Violence.

During this training session, twenty two productions got special training on the different aspects of criminology, including Domestic Violence.

This training session was held under the framework of a “Specialization course for prosecutors office’s employee to Fight domestic violence and family crime.”
. It is to be added that at this moment, the prosecution office has more than 250 employees who are effective in responding to this category (family and domestic violence cases)of criminal cases.

This was a four-day course, under this four-day training course, the local and Global legal framework and the practical aspects of laws on gender-based Violence against women and domestic Violence were widely discussed.

Moreover, As part of this training course, trainers apprised the prosecutors with information about the legal foundations of gender-based and domestic violence-related crimes committed against women. They also discussed how to ensure legal protection and assistance for victims and the importance of access to justice.

At the same time as part of the training course, separate sessions were held. These separate sessions were held with the involvement of an expert psychologist, prosecutors, etc. Here, They discussed the psychological characteristics of domestic Violence and the factors supporting Violence, as well as the psycho-emotional aspects of working with victims of domestic violence, witnesses and abusers.

It is worth mentioning that the Georgian Prosecutor’s Office implements a strict criminal policy against gender-based crimes against women. The official also added that Upgraded prosecution policy and continuing professional education play a critical role in the effective prosecution process. Therefore, upscaling the qualifications and skills of prosecutors specialized in this direction will continue actively in the future.

The prosecution office has already announced its participation in a sixteen-day global campaign against Domestic Violence. This Sixteen Day campaign is an International initiative that begins on the 25th of November every year.

Many civil, government and non-government organizations are holding seminars, conferences, and training programs to minimize the number of cases that are usually committed under the category of Domestic Violence.As per the data revealed by the Internal Affairs Department of Georgia. Domestic Violence is still a big problem in Georgia. moreover, Women are still the number one victims of Domestic Violence.
