Tbilisi: The department of environmental supervision has fined 4111 vehicles recently in capital city of country. The all 411 vehicles found to be polluting air and creating environmental problems.
The anti-pollution drive was launched in many cities including Georgian capital Tbilisi. The Georgian Environmental Protection Ministry’s Department of Environmental Supervision has issued 411 fines for violations of emissions regulations after inspecting vehicles in the country’s largest cities last month which also includes capital Tbilisi.
The government body said on Wednesday that its professionals as well as employees had inspected the vehicles in the capital Tbilisi, the central-eastern city of Rustavi and Kutaisi and Batumi in the west.
It also said most of the fines 215 had been issued in the capital with 87 handed out in Batumi, 70 in Rustavi and 39 in Kutaisi. It also added that 247 penalties had been issued to drivers of private vehicles, 142 to minibus drivers and 22 to truck drivers.
The Department noted improving air quality remained its “priority”, with several “targeted measures” being implemented for the purpose. The body said its professionals were “regularly monitoring” fuel quality at gas stations to “reduce use of substandard fuel, thereby lowering harmful emissions”.
It also added a “continuous self-monitoring system” for atmospheric emissions had been introduced to combat industrial pollution, with 35 of the largest enterprises currently participating in the scheme.
The problem of air pollution has become very critical in past few years. The air pollutions are also responsible for the climate change as well as the rising global temperature. Many countries across the globe have launched critical action against the threat of air pollution which has created many problems for human existence as well.
The international environmentalists from across the world has also warned governments and its various agencies. They have also urged them to take a strict action against those who are polluting the air as well as other natural resources of world. The official of environmental ministry reiterated that more such drive will be launched in future.
