On Monday, the administration of the Georgian government stated that PM Garibashvili is tested positive for the coronavirus omicron variant.

According to the administration’s announcement, the PM feels better and can continue his duties remotely.

However, the PM is fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 with two doses of an antidote, namely Pfizer and was diagnosed with the covid-19 compulsory testing.

Last year in April, he was also tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

Due to the spread of the new variant, namely Omicron, the number of infections began to rise about two weeks ago, with daily new cases surpassing 17000 per day.

So far, around 1754 cases of Omicron have been confirmed throughout the country as of February 01.

Moreover, the number of coronavirus cases in Georgia has reached an all-time high of 24,201 cases per day. The positivity rate of the infections in the past 14 days stands at 21.96%.
A total of 164,572 people are still infected with covid in Georgia.
Overall, 85,191 tests were conducted throughout the country in the last 24 hours.

The number of rapid tests conducted was 61,936, whereas 23,255 were rapid tests.

According to the data, around 5,454 people who are infected with covid are undergoing treatment in hospitals, while 157087 people are undergoing treatment at homes by isolating themselves. Out of this, there are 1,048 critically ill patients, with 263 are on artificial ventilation.

In addition to this, as of January 25, 2022, the Chief of the Operational Staff of the Interagency Coordination Council Giorgi Gibradze said that people above the age of 50 who will receive a booster shot, basically the third dose, will be rewarded with 100 GEL which is about (US$32).

Gibradze also stated that the 200 GEL vaccination promotion campaign would continue in February as part of the government’s vaccination promotion campaign. Georgian people over 50 are eligible for a cash reward of 200 GEL after receiving their first anti-viral vaccination.
