In Georgia, the Minister of Internal Affairs of Georgia, Vakhtang Gomelauri, thanked the foreign partners of Georgia for their “significant support” of the Ministry at the Georgian Parliament session on Thursday, March 17, while also stressing areas of ongoing cooperation.
Gomelauri named donations of up to $2,000,000 worth of equipment and training for up to 2,000 employees for the Ministry throughout 2021 as examples of international partners’ support during his presence at the lawmaking body as part of the Minister’s Hour format.
Moreover, in both planned reports and information meetings, the Minister said his team had “very active communication” with foreign partners, pointing out areas of ongoing and future cooperation, such as donor and partner organisation support for coastal and land border protection capabilities, as well as new infrastructure projects.
The Interior Minister told the lawmakers a “number of legislative amendments”, authored by the Ministry, which went into effect in 2021. This year further initiatives would be submitted to the legislators to “significantly improve public safety and order”.
Gomelauri thanked employees of the Ministry for their “tireless work for public order and peaceful development of the country” in his speech.
The Minister of Internal Affairs was speaking in Parliament session as part of his turn to address MPs as part of the Minister’s Hour format, in which government officials discuss issues relevant to their field of work and answer questions from lawmakers.
Furthermore, while addressing in a parliament session, the Minister also said as an ordinary Georgian and the Interior Minister, I once again express my complete and open support to our friendly Ukrainian individuals.
In response to the current conflict in Ukraine, Gomelauri stated that the international community and world leaders must do everything necessary to bring the war to a stop as quickly as possible.
The Minister also reaffirmed Georgia’s support “at all international levels” for Ukraine.
