Daily COVID-19 Updates: Georgia reports 817 new cases, 3 deaths

Georgian Health Ministry said that the country has reported 817 new cases of COVID-19, with 23,017 recoveries and 3 fatalities in the past 24 hours. The positivity rate for the past two weeks stands at 6.64 per cent.

There are currently 22,810 active cases of Coronavirus all over the country. 

According to reports, Georgia has the 13th highest Covid mortality rate globally in a week. 

Moreover, as per the figures given by the Georgian health department, a total of 23,553 tests were conducted throughout the country within the last 24 hours, out of which 21,030 were rapid antigen tests, and the remaining 2,523 were PCR tests.

Since February 26, 2020, the country has recorded a total of 1,644,112 cases of Coronavirus. Out of 1,644,112 cases of COVID-19, a total of 1,604,595 patients have recovered, while 16,681 people have succumbed to it.

The new 817 cases of COVID-19 were recorded in several parts of the country. 

  • Tbilisi – 374 cases 
  • Adjara – 39 cases 
  • Imereti – 105 cases 
  • Kvemo Kartli – 33 cases 
  • Shida Kartli – 44 cases 
  • Guria – 54 cases 
  • Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti – 81 cases 
  • Kakheti – 53 cases 
  • Mtskheta-Mtianeti – 22 cases 
  • Samtskhe-Javakheti – 2 cases 
  • Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo Svaneti – 10 cases

The new Omicron variant of Coronavirus accounts for the majority of confirmed Covid-19 cases in the country.

Furthermore, there are currently 738 patients who are undergoing treatment in hospitals, while 22,072 people are undergoing treatment at home and by consulting their family doctors. There are 205 people who are undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit.

As many as 1,357,243 people have received at least one dose of any vaccine in the country so far, while 1,254,665 individuals have been fully vaccinated, amounting to 43.5 % of the country’s adult population.

A total of 234,523 individuals have received booster shots or 3rd dose of the vaccine. 

Health Minister Zurab Azarashvili also announced that the country would receive Paxlovid, a Covid-19 treatment medication created by Pfizer, starting this week.

Starting March 28, wearing a face mask in outdoor places will no longer be required in Georgia, according to Giorgi Ghibradze of the Interagency Coordination Council.
