France commences administration of 4th COVID vax to over-80s

French PM Jean Castex told the sources that from Monday onwards, France would start offering the 4th dose of a COVID-19 vaccine to people aged above 80 who had their booster more than three months ago.

French PM Jean Castex told the sources that from Monday onwards, France will start offering the 4th dose of a COVID-19 vaccine to people aged above 80 who had their booster more than three months ago.

Despite the relaxation of France’s Covid-19 regulations, Jean Castex stated they were nevertheless advised to wear a face mask.

As per the reports, the COVID-19 vaccination campaign will also be extended to people having an immunocompromised system who were not eligible for the jab until now.

Moreover, on Monday, the European nation is to drop the vaccine pass, proof that someone has been triple-vaccinated against the disease, which until now was required to enter public areas such as restaurants or cinemas.

However, a similar pass will be needed to go to a hospital or a retirement home in order to protect the most vulnerable.

From March 14, the masks will only be required on public transport and will no longer be necessary at work or in school.

In France, there are around 4.1 million people aged above 80, out of which 3.1 million individuals have already had the booster dose or 3rd dose.

Furthermore, the country has registered more than 23 million cases of Coronavirus on its land, and more than 140,000 have succumbed to it.

French President Emmanuel Macron is likely to emphasize his management of the pandemic as he campaigns for re-election in polls next month. However, Russia’s war on Ukraine has largely overshadowed the campaign.

Until now, the proportion of the population fully vaccinated in France stands at 77.7%, accounting for 5.24 Cr individuals. Since the pandemic, approximately 14.1Cr doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered throughout the country.

France is witnessing a rebound of Coronavirus cases. On Saturday, the National Health Agency had reported a total of 72,443 new cases of COVID-19
