The official group created by the Human Rights Protection and Civil Integration Committee on the issue of proactive consideration of the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights in Georgian courts held its first extended format meeting.
The working meeting was held under the leadership of the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, and the members of the working group, as well as the representatives of the executive power, judicial power, academic circles, civil society, the office of the Council of Europe in Georgia and the European Union, participated in it.
According to the chairman of the committee, Mikheil Sarjveladze, one of the issues in the 12-point plan is related to the proactive, active use of the jurisprudence of the European Court of Human Rights by national courts.
“Our task is to create a legislative package that will support this process. Based on the ideas proposed at today’s meeting, we will develop such legal norms that will encourage more active implementation of conclusions, opinions, standards, and provisions of the Strasbourg European Court of Human Rights in Georgian courts”, said Mikheil Sarjveladze.
According to him, based on the opinions and ideas expressed at today’s meeting, the initial version of the legislative initiative will be prepared, on which active parliamentary discussions will continue in the format of the committee and plenary sessions.
