Moscow: A top ally of President Vladimir Putin has clarified the Russian intentions of carrying on the full-scale military operation on Ukraine, even if it formally renounces its decision to join NATO. Ex-President and the current deputy chairman of Russia’s security council, Dmitry Medvedev, has stated that Russia is willing to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, but certain conditions have to be met before the meetings.
Before Russia invaded Ukraine, it had made very clear that Ukraine’s NATO membership was completely unacceptable for Russia.
“Renouncing its participation in the North Atlantic alliance is now vital, but it is already insufficient in order to establish peace. Russia would carry on its operations until its goals are achieved”, stated Medvedev.
Putin has been consistently indulged in the ‘Denazification’ of Ukraine, although the nations of the west and Kyiv haven’t approved of this.Â
Russia and Ukraine have held various rounds of conversations after the invasion on February 24th. However, the talks ended, bearing no fruit and the Russian military operation in Ukraine still goes on. The probability of further talks seems quite bleak. However, Medvedev said that the conversations can still go on, depending on how the events unfold.
Moreover, he went on to degrade the US weapons that have been sent to Ukraine, saying they don’t pose a major threat as of now. But if weapons could hit the targets at a longer distance, that could be dangerous.
