Tbilisi: The Minister of State for Reconciliation and Civil Equality of Georgia, Tea Akhvlediani held a meeting with the Chief Advisor of the US Department of State Luis Bono on Caucasus negotiations.

The Minister of State thanked his American colleague for his consistent support of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity in the borders recognized by the USA. He also stressed the important role of the U.S. in the process of peacefully resolving the conflict in Georgia, including by promoting trust between war-torn communities and supporting the conflict-hit population.

The meeting discussed in detail the severe consequences of illegal occupation of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali regions of Georgia, including violations of the fundamental rights of local population and attempts for further artificial isolation.

During the meeting, a special emphasis was laid on the facts of illegal detention of Georgian citizens and the need for international partners to ensure unconditional and immediate release of detainees based on humanitarian approach was emphasized.

Tea Akhvlediani informed the State Department spokesman on the results and future visions of the implementation of the reconciliation and inclusion policy, aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of the conflict-affected population and deepening dialogue and trust between artificially divided communities.

The parties stressed the importance of the Geneva international talks and the need for progress on the issues on the agenda.
A representative of the State Department reaffirmed the United States’ unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia, as well as the Georgian government’s peace policy in internationally recognized borders.

At the end, the parties at the meeting agreed to continue and further strengthen their close cooperation.
