Georgia: Exhibition of Olga and Alexander Florenski – “Made in Georgia” was opened in Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery. Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Youth of Georgia Irakli Giviashvili attended the event.
It is noteworthy that Georgia is one of the important topics of the creative tandem of the couple Florence and the exhibition also features a series created on Georgia: Naive style views of Tbilisi and Batumi, portraits of Georgian friends, series of Georgian alphabet and reminiscences of the ancient Tbilisi dark clouds.
Alexander Florence’s ancestors were originally from Georgia. Grandpa – Andrei Florenski and his brother – philosopher Pavel Florenski, were born in Tbilisi. Great grandfather – civil engineer Alexander Florenski was born in Tbilisi and supervised the construction of roads and bridges. His first project was Batumi-Akhaltsikhe Road.
Alexander Florensky – painter, graphic designer, and ceramicist, was born in 1960 in Leningrad (now Petersburg), in a family of artists. Vera Mukhina graduated in 1982 from the Ceramics Department of the Higher Art and Vocational School of Leningrad. Is one of the organizers of the Union of Painters ” .итьки” (1985. ) and a member of the graphics section of the St. Petersburg Union of Artists (1988) ).
From 1997-2005, he was the curator of the gallery ” Уитьки – -“. In addition, he worked as head of the Department of Contemporary Art in the State Museum (Tsarskoe Sello Collection, Russia).
Alexander Florensky is also a collector – he collects works of Georgian and Russian contemporary artists. With his wife, Olga Florenskaia, he has implemented a number of artistic and publishing projects. Many private galleries and state museums hosted exhibitions of Alexander Florensky’s works at different times.
They include: “Totibadze Gallery” (Art Center ” ო”, Moscow), State Russian Museum (Petersburg), Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow) and Hermitage (Petersburg). Alexander Florensky’s works are kept in the collections of the Russian Museum, Hermitage, Tretiakov Gallery, Pushkin Fine Art, Moscow Center of Modern Art and Shalva Amiranashvili Art Museum.
Olga Florenskaia (d. 1960) – Painter, graphic designer, ceramicist and sculptor was born in Leningrad in a family of artists. Vera Mukhina graduated in 1982 from the Ceramics Department of the Higher Art-Technical School.
Together with his wife, Alexander Florensky, is one of the heads of the group ” ენსитьки” (1985) and a member of the Union of Artists of St. Petersburg (1988). He implemented a number of large-scale creative projects with Alexander Florensky. Including animated films: “The Biggest Story” and “Hidden Movies”.
He has received many awards at international film festivals held in Russia. Olga Florenskaia made her name through collages made of paper and fabric.
Both private galleries and state museums hosted his personal exhibitions. Including: the Museum of the Academy of Natif Arts (Petersburg), “Gallerie Vallois Sculpture” (Paris), “OAT Gallery” (Tbilisi) and “Totibadze Gallery” (Moscow). His works are kept in the collections of Russian Museum, Hermitage, Tretiakov Gallery, Pushkin Fine Art, Moscow Center of Contemporary Art, London’s “VICTORIA & ALBERT” and Shalva Amiranashvili Art Museum.
The artist lives and works in St. Petersburg and Tbilisi. Visitors will be able to see Olga and Alexander Florenski’s exhibition in the Dimitri Shevardnadze National Gallery of Georgia until September 9, 2023.
